Synopsis: Service is based on self-generative autopoiesic content assembled dynamically by matching real-time context streams with existing content fragments into localized “fun facts”. The “fun facts” are presented on a large interactive public display in two alternate modes. In the ambient mode the “fun facts” can be viewed in a sequence and voted upon with thumbs up/down buttons. In the game mode the “fun facts” are presented in form of trivia questions so that correct answers give points towards a game score.

Synopsis: Service enables the formation of collective memories, the shared memory of the townspeople. The user can, for example, view, share and comment on information about places worth visiting, or relate memories they have about a certain place.

Synopsis: Service allows anyone to add their own classified ads to a digital notice board on a UBI-hotspot. The data is easily downloadable into the user’s own mobile devices. A digital classified can be accompanied by videos or information on the location, for example. The content can be commented on, evaluated and recommended.

Synopsis: Service offers peoples, runners in particular, a new way of sharing information. The service uses wireless networks, allowing the runner to choose a route used by fellow runners of the same level, for example, or to check the map on a UBI-hotspot to see where friends are currently running and join them. The users of the service can compete with themselves or other enthusiasts by comparing their times via the social network attached to the service which encourages and motivates to exercise regularly.

The 1st International Open Ubiquitous City Challenge 2010-2011 ("UBI Challenge" for short) challenged the global R&D community to design, implement, deploy end evaluate novel applications and services in real-world setting in the City of Oulu, Finland.
The goal of the UBI Challenge was to:
- Stimulate global research collaboration on urban informatics in a very concrete manner.
- Provide the international R&D community with an opportunity to transfer ideas from labs into real-world urban environment.
- Make the open urban computing testbed in Oulu available to the international R&D community.
- Support developing metrics for evaluating urban computing infrastructure and applications in real-world setting.
