4th International UBI Summer School 2013: Practical matters

Location: University of Oulu, Architecture Campus at downtown Oulu, address Rantakatu 2.

Language: English.

Credits: 5.0 ECTS (to be confirmed by the Postgraduate Study Committee of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Oulu).

Passing criteria: Please verify beforehand the passing criteria enforced by your own university. At some universities participation is sufficient for credits while some universities such as the University of Oulu require a final exam. The passing criteria for the students of the University of Oulu are as follows:

  • 1. Full participation in the selected workshop, including the 5th International Open Ubiquitous City Seminar 2013. If you are not able to attend every day, you should not apply and enroll.
  • 2. Successful contribution to a project completed during the workshop (50% of grade).
  • 3. Passing the final exam based on a reading package selected by the instructor and the material presented during the workshop (50% of grade).
  • A certificate of participation will be given to all students completing requirements 1 and 2. A separate certificate will be given for passing the final exam including the final grade.

Registration fee: 180 EUR (no accommodation) / 350 EUR (including accommodation for 8 nights at Nallikari Camping). The registration fee covers the workshop, the get together party, the dinner cruise, the school dinner and daily refreshments at the summer school site. Other daily meals are not included, as based on the previous summer schools students prefer to have meals of their own choosing.

Travel: Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements and expenses. Flights to Oulu are provided by Finnair, Flybe, Norwegian and SAS.

Accommodation: We provide out of town students with an opportunity to purchase low-cost accommodation from Saturday June 8 15:00 till Sunday June 16 12:00 upon registration (8 nights for just 170 EUR). Students opting for this accommodation will lodge at the high quality holiday cottages of the 4-star Nallikari camping area. Up to 3 (small cottage) or 5 (large cottage) students will share a cottage, so that females and males are staying in separate cottages. Nallikari camping area is located next to the Nallikari beach, about 3 km long scenic walk from the summer school site. There is a regular bus service between Nallikari and downtown Oulu (the summer school site).
