UBI Oulu Forum invites researchers, practitioners and general public to get together for engaging discussions on the broad and multidisciplinary fields of ubiquitous and pervasive computing.

The stage is set by stimulating and maybe even provocative position statements by senior scholars. The ensuing discussion is anchored by the scholars serving as a panel for Q&A with the participants.

Everybody is welcome to join the discussion which will take place in English. No prior registration is required.

UBI Program visited Pervasive 2010 (The Eighth International Conference on Pervasive Computing) during May 17-20 in Helsinki, Finland.


The 1st International UBI Summer School is organized in Oulu on May 31 - June 4 2010. The Summer School consists of six parallel workshops and the instructors in all workshops are international experts of ubiquitous computing. The number of students accepted for each workshop is limited; therefore, the applicants should send a one page application to Professor Timo Ojala by April 19.


The UBI Program, coordinated by MediaTeam Oulu research group, organizes the “2nd Open Ubiquitous City Seminar” on May 31 in Oulu City Library’s Pakkala Hall. Several international experts of ubiquitous computing have been invited as speakers of the seminar.


The UBI Program, coordinated by MediaTeam Oulu research group of the University of Oulu, participated the ISE 2010 (Integrated Systems Europe) show which was organized in the beginning of February in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. ISE is the leading annual digital signage event in Europe. UBI Program’s Account Manager Ville Valkama was at the show getting acquainted with the future prospects of digital displays.


The 1st International Open Ubiquitous City Challenge ("UBI Challenge" for short) challenges the global R&D community to design, implement, deploy end evaluate novel applications and services in real-world setting in the City of Oulu, Finland. The goal of the UBI Challenge is to stimulate global research collaboration on urban informatics in a very concrete manner, provide the international R&D community with an opportunity to transfer ideas from labs into real-world urban environment, make the Oulu open urban computing testbed available to the international R&D community and support developing metrics for evaluating urban computing infrastructure and applications in real-world setting.

The UBI Program, coordinated by MediaTeam Oulu research group of the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering of the University of Oulu, extends into anthropology in the beginning of the year 2010. Academy of Finland has granted funding for UBI Anthropos project of the subject of Cultural Anthropology of the University of Oulu. The funding was granted for the years 2010-2012.
